Euphoria- A Foodie Festival

Begun in 2006 by local restaurateur, Carl Sobocinski, and singer/songwriter, Edwin McCain, as a way to incorporate both food and music, the foodie festival Euphoria has grown exponentially in the last 17 years. Bringing in both local, and well-known celebrity chefs to teach, serve, and exhibit ways to present great food in new and innovative ways, Euphoria is a food lover’s dream. This year, it boasts 50-plus events, and 200-plus chefs, musicians, and beverage professionals, all ready to wow us all with their delicious and beautifully presented food. Just a few (although they all sound incredible!) of the fun adventures include:
Pedal to Picnic – A guided bike ride (on electric bikes, no less!) to Traveler’s Rest for a chef’s picnic with refreshing beverages, and classes on farm-to-table fare.
Plantains at the Pub is a beer class featuring pairings with traditional Caribbean flavors, from plantains to mofongo, each paired with a cold brew.
Hey Macarona! A hands-on macaron class, where you’ll learn the delicate technique of making challenging French pastries, from a French-trained pastry chef. ( I will be happy to taste test any leftovers!)
Great food, live music, the chance to meet new friends, and learn some great things, what’s not to love?
And, they get the kids involved too! For several years Euphoria has hosted the Healthy Lunchtime Throwdown, a friendly cooking competition between aspiring young chefs. During the competition four selected participants are paired with a Michelin-Starred chef who acts as their sous chef at the head-to-head cook-off. The winning recipe will be added to the Greenville County School menu rotation for that school year.
The event has helped to support 40 plus local charities that support sustenance to those in need, specifically as it relates to food that sustains life or health, educates through music or performing arts, or those that aid children.
September is all About Apples
All this talk about food makes me hungry for my favorite fall activity, apple picking! The Upstate is home to many U-pick orchards, each with its own varieties. Although dates to start picking have yet to be announced in many orchards, here are a few of our favorites for you to choose from. While some of these are in Hendersonville, NC., it is just over an hour’s drive through the foothills of the mountains, and with the leaves beginning to change to the brilliant colors of Fall, it is a beautiful drive up to the orchards. Whether you want to pick your own apples, are hankering after a fresh apple cider donut, or want to picnic in an apple orchard (or do all three!) Greenville is a great location to start your adventure.
And, how best to kick off the fall apple picking season, than with the NC Apple Festival in Downtown Hendersonville, Labor Day Weekend, September 1 – 4. Expect a giant street fair with an Arts and Craft show, Children’s activities, and of course, lots of apples! McGregors Orchard– Is located on Scenic Highway 11 north of Greenville and has apples and apple products like apple butter, apple cider (yum), and apple sauce as well as home made fruit preserves and fruit butters.As of August 18th, Cider pressing has begun! 2400 SC-11, Travelers Rest, SC. 29690.
Twisted Apple Farm in Hendersonville has organic apples, organic baked goods, and craft-brewed apple ale. 4039 Chimney Rock Road, Hendersonville, NC. 28792
Justus Orchard – Also located in Hendersonville, this 4th generation-owned orchard has pick your own fresh apples and pumpkins. The bake shop has apple cider donuts, apple cider slushies, cobblers, pies, and other seasonal baked goods all made from produce from their farm. They also have a great picnic area, and you can spend time watching the ducks and geese at the duck pond while you munch on your freshly made apple goodies. “Pick Your Own” began on August 11. 187 Garren Rd. Grandad’s Apples – Hendersonville At Grandad’s 100-acre family farm, you can pick your own, or mix and match from what they have picked for you. In addition to apples, they also have pumpkins and mountain cabbage. They also have fun fall weekend activities like a corn maze and an apple cannon. And of course if we are talking about apples, we can’t forget the Pettigru Place’s famous Apple Sundae Stuffed French Toast with Caramelized Apples, Candied Pecans, Vanilla Ice Cream, and Crispy Bacon.

Wednesdays:
Join Pomegranate on Main and enjoy some delicious Persian food and enjoy live music performances by local musicians on their climate-controlled patio each Wednesday evening from 6:30 – 9:30 PM. Artists will vary each week
Thursdays:
PNG Downtown Alive Concerts open on Thursdays at 5:30 pm and closes at 8:30 pm. Bands play two sets at 5:50 pm and 7:20 pm on the Stage at Noma Square. The music varies from country to rock or jazz. Check the calendar for the music “flavor” of the week.
Moonlight Movies -Come early to grab a good spot and play trivia with us before the show. Movies begin at sundown in Falls Park every Thursday in September & October. Local food trucks and Poppington’s Popcorn will be on-site. Feel free to bring your own picnic, chairs/blanket and enjoy a cozy night under the stars!$1 wristbands must be purchased on-site if you plan on bringing alcohol.
Fridays:
Main Street Fridays – This weekly music series on Main Street at NOMA Square opens at 5:30 p.m. and closes at 9:30 p.m., with bands playing two sets at 5:50 p.m. and 7:40 p.m. NOMA Square chairs go fast, so bring a tailgating chair if you are not arriving early. We have folding chairs available at the B&B if you didn’t bring your own.
Saturdays:
Saturday Farmers Market. – Main Street in Downtown Greenville is closed to traffic and 75 vendors have tables selling fresh fruit, vegetables, crafts, and art. Starts early at 8:30 am and ends at 12:30 pm. The Farmers Market is an easy half-mile walk from the Bed and Breakfast.

Saturday, September 2 head to 13 Stripes Brewery for their quarterly book swap. Exchange what you’ve finished, browse what’s on the shelf, and sit and read whatever you bring with you all while sipping at their “old world style brewery”.
Sunday, September 3 Spirit Fest returns to the Bon Secours Arena for the 25th year of singing and worship. This year’s lineup just keeps growing!
Wednesday, September 6 Foxcroft Wine Co. will be hosting a dinner featuring
Obsidian Ridge wines from California. Not only is this award-winning wine made from grapes across the Mayacamas Mountains, but also has origins in Hungary. Learn about their process of winemaking while enjoying a four-course dinner.
September 7 – 24 – Monty Python’s Spamalot at Greenville Theater: The 2005 Tony Award-winning Best Musical Spamalot tells the story of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table as they go on a quest to find the Holy Grail. Inspired by the classic comedy movie, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, this hilarious slap-stick musical will feature the Lady of the Lake, a dancing ensemble of misfits, and the classic story of King Arthur – all told with a Monty Python musical twist!
September 7 – 10 – As part of their three-show Fringe series, Greenville’s Centre Stage presents Happy, a fast-paced and biting comedy that pokes holes in the premise that happiness is something to be conjured up out of thin air. “Stop yelling. Be happy. Be happy! Close your eyes, open your eyes, whatever you need to do to pull yourself together.” Alfred is happy about his life. He’s happy with his job. He’s happy with his marriage. He’s even happily raising his special needs daughter. However, when his best friend invites him to meet the latest woman in his life, things spin out of control.
September 8 – 24 – The Warehouse Theater presents William Shakespeare’s comedy, Twelfth Night: Viola thinks her brother is dead. Her brother thinks that she is dead. Everyone thinks that she is her brother. Shenanigans ensue.

September 21 Join Greenville’s Premier Art Collective for an evening of art and entertainment. At this fundraiser, Kaleidoscope, for art therapy, you will have the opportunity to view and purchase art of various mediums the show the change from “mourning to dancing”. The night will feature live art on stage as well as many displays, information on the organizations many outlets, and food.

September 22-23 Competition abounds as cooks compete in the “Anything Butt Contest” to support Project Host as they raise funds to continue feeding and training those who need it most. The Cook-off portion of the event will conclude with the judges decisions at 1:30pm on Saturday.

September 19 – 24 – The Multiple Tony award winning musical, MJ, joins this year’s lineup in The Peace Center’s Broadway series. Click here for more information.
September 23 Community Tap is having their V.I.B.E. (very independent beer event). This annual event has world-class beers and favorite local chefs for pairing. Tickets are limited and adult only, but include tastings of all featured beers and food.
September 25 – 30
September 26 Spend your Tuesday with award winning author Ron Rash, having lunch with him while he discusses his newest book (to be released that day!!!). You’ll enjoy a good meal and leave with a signed copy of The Caretaker.
September 26 The Fall Wedding Festival returns with large displays, wedding fashion shows, and door prizes. The massive Greenville Convention Center is the perfect place for Brides and their parties to plan their perfect ceremony.
September 28 – October 1st – Proof, by playwright David Auburn, presented by CenterStage.
September 30 – Social media success, Trey Kennedy, brings his fun and funny relatable content to the Peace Center
September 30 – October 1 – The Greenville Symphony presents Olympic Feats of Opera at Gunter Theater at The Peace Center.
September 30 The Westside Market will have 50 vendors wrapped around the building with food trucks and live music for you to shop to your heart’s content! Westside Market has furniture, artists, jewelry, and decor items of all varieties, I am sure their Fall Vendor Market will be just as beautiful and eclectic.
September 30 The Bon Secours Wellness Arena will host the 6th annual Greenville Blues Festival. Emotion filled musical storytelling by King George, Calvin Richardson, Tucka, Pokey Bear, Ronnie Bell and J-Wonn.
