October Innside Scoop of Fun Things to do in Greenville, SC

The Best Fall leaf viewing from Scenic Highway 11 to spectacular overlooks with the best place to stop for food along the way.

With the arrival of the cooler weather in October, the leaves have begun to show off their incredible Fall colors in vibrant hues of golds, oranges, and reds.  Although we have our own tree-lined streets that are beginning to show off their Autumn wardrobe, we are within easy driving distance to some of the best “leaf peeping” scenery in the Southeast.  We will be happy to share some waterfall and hiking maps and tips.  In addition, take a look at the Fall Foliage Prediction map at Smokey Mountain.com which gives you a daily geographic forecast of leaf color throughout the season.

The Upcountry is the northwest corner of South Carolina where the Piedmont meets the Blue Ridge Mountains, and there are numerous back roads, waterfall hikes, and mountain overlooks. Our favorites include Pretty Place, with a breathtaking view from Standing Stone Mountain, Sassafras Mountain which is the highest point in South Carolina, Caesars Head State Park with its overlook, and hike to Raven Cliff Falls.

All of these are easily accessible from the Cherokee Foothills National byway and are less than an hour’s drive of the Bed & Breakfast.  And since leaf viewing is hard work, let us suggest a few great places to grab lunch.  From casual to gourmet, there is something for everyone.

Victoria Valley Vineyards 1360 South Saluda Road. – A 47-acre vineyard with the mountains framing the property.  With tours, a tasting room, gift shop, and your choice of indoor or outdoor dining overlooking the grape-filled vines with the mountains as a backdrop.  Choose from sandwiches & salads, but don’t miss the Great Wall 7-Layer Chocolate Cake!

Terrace with tables overlooking the vineyards framed in Autumn leaf covered mountains.

The Scoop Ice Cream Shop & Eats- 108 N. Main St., Six Mile, SC – If you are looking for lunch, I can tell you I love a good panini, but the countless online reviews swear by the pizza.  In addition, if you are a ice cream lover, you have found the right place.  From single scoops and sundaes to massive piled-high milkshakes (AKA Freakshakes) there will certainly be a flavor for you.

The Lighthouse 1290 Doug Hollow Rd. Seneca, SC 29672 – The Lighthouse is Lake Keowee’s premiere dining experience.  They have casual eats both on the main floor and a more upscale dining experience on the second floor with its panoramic lake and mountain views.  Choose from seafood options such as a Maryland Crab Pretzel, Shrimp & Grits, or southern delicacies like fried green tomatoes or Memphis ribs.  Reservations are required so be sure to plan ahead.

The Jeter Mountain – 1126 Jeter Mountain Rd, Hendersonville, NC 28739 – Jeter Mountain has it all!  Bakery, coffee shop, hard cider made from the apples grown on the mountian, and even a smokehouse for lunch.  Enjoying the fall foliage just over the boarder in North Carolina is the perfect time to stop by this family run farm, as they are only open annually until the end of October!

The Hare & Hound – 101 E Rutherford St. Landrum, SC – Located on the main street in Landrum this wood-accented pub is housed in a vintage brick building with a patio and balcony and an eclectic American menu.  As a bonus, Landrum has several blocks of antique and thrift stores if have time.  While reservations are not required we highly suggest making them as they stay busy all day!
